Going up one side of the Stour, around the bend and then up one side of the Orwelll to Ipswich and back down the other to Felixstowe, around 40 miles.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">We have done a couple of bits of it, but on Sunday set off from the start in Cattawade</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXQ5JSiVbkYpt5TaWPGLpXrcp5ASXIwW-8vC4f7dZbo4b6tszCYu-akIZznVXRjQ_CF-JOHrqI_ayTau0LyYMRnXitCK_kr2XuJuCqukxOKrtLzIa9r6i4R-KXTwtWBPQroL3ELOop5Hk/s1280/IMG_0764.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXQ5JSiVbkYpt5TaWPGLpXrcp5ASXIwW-8vC4f7dZbo4b6tszCYu-akIZznVXRjQ_CF-JOHrqI_ayTau0LyYMRnXitCK_kr2XuJuCqukxOKrtLzIa9r6i4R-KXTwtWBPQroL3ELOop5Hk/s320/IMG_0764.JPG" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Here I am at the start standing on the old Cattawade bridge with the Stour in the background, looking back towards Manningtree.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">From here we walked past the pub, garage and vets surgery and then down Factory Lane. This used to be a narrow lane with a row of factories on the right. Margaret Thatcher worked in one of them many years ago and so did my late father-in-law, but not sure that they were there at the same time. These factories are no longer, but the buildings have been upgraded and house other businesses. The lane is no longer either, but has been made into a proper road and new housing is springing up on the left side. At the end of the road, the path goes through a gap in the hedge and around The Decoy Pond.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlllQo-LaBBDE6B8RM2F0KpQuZn-JuReJf-5Aten05_V6CkG3tDn6wsJHEFbKg1KIw6krF0U_264WDZyD8XpIbQuF5tS52yZPw6OUy3_XJByuFEFkT_lSyW7UVOuH7FnSdjzoew8jbhL4/s2048/IMG_0766.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlllQo-LaBBDE6B8RM2F0KpQuZn-JuReJf-5Aten05_V6CkG3tDn6wsJHEFbKg1KIw6krF0U_264WDZyD8XpIbQuF5tS52yZPw6OUy3_XJByuFEFkT_lSyW7UVOuH7FnSdjzoew8jbhL4/s320/IMG_0766.JPG" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">From here along the path next to the railway line, this is the main line between Norwich and London, normally with trains going past every half hour. Each month we normally meet up in a hall in Colchester, but since lock down all our meetings have been on Zoom, not quite the same, infact nothing like the same but it has to do for now.</span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxptATwvPZbRNIILK44PwEVzmNy1bTyRktpuuX1AK4ze0PML91VqxNbRikp8IzxthnGEt6oOKGIpfPla57eFvIViqfeh7NKEQt2RKqjE4Lrxm3hxAaFdmjGAnwIs6K5HmOeQcqncL_9go/s2048/IMG_0671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxptATwvPZbRNIILK44PwEVzmNy1bTyRktpuuX1AK4ze0PML91VqxNbRikp8IzxthnGEt6oOKGIpfPla57eFvIViqfeh7NKEQt2RKqjE4Lrxm3hxAaFdmjGAnwIs6K5HmOeQcqncL_9go/s320/IMG_0671.JPG" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">This month we had a cook- a- long from a vegan Chef @Natashathelovingchef She spoke about her work and then showed us how to bake this Chocolate Courgette cake, we stirred and mixed and popped them in the oven. On Thursday evening I hosted our WI cake club on Zoom. This subgroup is normally held in a back room of a pub and everyone gets to try each others cake, but in Covid times this is held on Zoom with no chance of tasting. The theme for this month was healthy treat, two ladies made flapjack, one a fruit cake and another a banana loaf. As I am trying to be extra healthy I did not make anything apart from a bowl of popcorn. On Friday I met my friend and here dog and went for a walk, which was good, but we didn't go too far as she can only manage 1 hour walking due to her health, but it was good to chat with someone.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6m-gklephf6lyevKYMAVERy3EXmdpY0WUQIoqmyP-wG1bo7X-lUHLRgtT9OVijef9mOqa2e0EUjAEn3ZgH_yY4p9fAw8GF5ufm8BVYiRGNqdqOU4KH8cd1lTjv2aS9RZap13AKLU25II/s1099/IMG_5575.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="727" data-original-width="1099" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6m-gklephf6lyevKYMAVERy3EXmdpY0WUQIoqmyP-wG1bo7X-lUHLRgtT9OVijef9mOqa2e0EUjAEn3ZgH_yY4p9fAw8GF5ufm8BVYiRGNqdqOU4KH8cd1lTjv2aS9RZap13AKLU25II/s320/IMG_5575.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Saturday was absolutely freezing cold, it rained and sleeted all day, so apart from a quick dash to the market I stayed in all day and spent sometime watching the birds from my window. This weekend is the Big garden Birdwatch, counting how many birds you observe in one hour and then upload to the RSPB website</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /> </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeXUgpp7d9SJa6XD-akte6dgcvX1ILMwpJs-s0PfELm2uxv0CJCOyxO0Oes947f8GnQhBGDNceF102uhgYu_p8A1SEWdh0168fSPEfZ_wLo9rwvUVUENE5R-NV5u6HjrC7aN_35NTI6HA/s1548/IMG_5574.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1548" data-original-width="1493" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeXUgpp7d9SJa6XD-akte6dgcvX1ILMwpJs-s0PfELm2uxv0CJCOyxO0Oes947f8GnQhBGDNceF102uhgYu_p8A1SEWdh0168fSPEfZ_wLo9rwvUVUENE5R-NV5u6HjrC7aN_35NTI6HA/s320/IMG_5574.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">I topped up the feeders, grabbed my binoculars and a cup of coffee and watched. During the hour I saw loads of starlings, some long tailed tits, a blue tit, some green finches, a crow and couple of pigeons, blackbirds and two Magpies</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtkn7Db5MvHQN7jJBa8ulzSLLYekomWD86f-DxLQQ1Gqy6jIHo11C9p6oEixJPaYOviuLGaRktKdXJdqugImSmlKUQljwRjGIu3tE1sDjOQD7mQnmrwWX5QrzU2KYRQc28aCouBuKL-qM/s1142/IMG_5576.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="890" data-original-width="1142" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtkn7Db5MvHQN7jJBa8ulzSLLYekomWD86f-DxLQQ1Gqy6jIHo11C9p6oEixJPaYOviuLGaRktKdXJdqugImSmlKUQljwRjGIu3tE1sDjOQD7mQnmrwWX5QrzU2KYRQc28aCouBuKL-qM/s320/IMG_5576.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Here is a photo taken from the RSBP webiste of some longtailed tits, they looked exactly like this from my window, but with only a phone camera I couldn't get a good photo!</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /> </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV_ujGBXC18q2d640fno4GxVbfxhyphenhyphen_tG5ULUroVuD5TL8tRJxckZOcKMSz-H3i7ma7RxTUQpTrPYyZWDkjqIobgZ3LspabLvso2a2J61FRRAuDBVZ-FGMoKYZeFYs5H0ntASH2leBRmAI/s2048/IMG_5578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV_ujGBXC18q2d640fno4GxVbfxhyphenhyphen_tG5ULUroVuD5TL8tRJxckZOcKMSz-H3i7ma7RxTUQpTrPYyZWDkjqIobgZ3LspabLvso2a2J61FRRAuDBVZ-FGMoKYZeFYs5H0ntASH2leBRmAI/s320/IMG_5578.JPG" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Today started bright and sunny so headed out to the greenhouse to sow some seeds: </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Onions - Long Red Florence, Bedfordshire Champion, Isobel Rose, which I grew last year, lovely pink onions, and some from seed I saved last year, but don't know the variety.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Peppers: Sweet Banana and Corbaci, Chilli Pepper - Eureka</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Leeks - Carantan 2</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Aubergines- Striped Toga, tried to grow these last year, but only produced tiny fruits, trying again this year</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Herbs - Greek oregano, parsley, Corriander and Chervil, all old seed, will see if they germinate</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Flowers: Orlaya Grandiflora white Lace</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">All these seeds are now on a warm window sill in the house, until they germinate <br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">I pricked out some flower seedlings that I had sown in the autumn - Larkspur, Veronika and Rudbekia, all into modules in the green house .</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Found some more bulbs that I had forgotten to pot, so popped these into pots in the green house - dwarf daffodils and some pink tulips</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">I also set the potato seeds out in trays to chit, these are in the porch, the coolest part of the house.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Finished week two of Caroline Girvans Epic 2 workouts, and lost another pound, which is great.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"> </span><br /></p>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17172354400355829318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674848111137076091.post-19994988451328979132021-01-24T20:30:00.006+00:002021-01-24T20:30:56.137+00:00New boots and potatoes<p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Not a singe flake of snow here, but from looking at Instagram it seems everyone else in the country had loads. It was very cold today with a hard frost this morning, not a day for walking or allotmenting so headed into town to do some shopping.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">I have only had my walking boots for around one year, thought they were fine when I got them, but soon found out they were just too small. After about 4 miles my feet really began to hurt especially my toes, so before we walk another step I needed to get new boots. We watched some really interesting You Tube videos last night on how to choose outdoor clothes and boots. I checked that Go Outdoors was open, the website said for essential items only and these were essential!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioUdomH4Wr9CXol_pdqy2g69CiIG_Ov_8RdQZ1_ReUR1bOubhJuDjGzg1xzOweUzpC-Q8HcD4-cYgXkoYlohwFk99j-yJoN9xmpfer102A7HLhxR72hNWbw8mmm1JT6qnMXyk8W40s4mk/s2048/IMG_0616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioUdomH4Wr9CXol_pdqy2g69CiIG_Ov_8RdQZ1_ReUR1bOubhJuDjGzg1xzOweUzpC-Q8HcD4-cYgXkoYlohwFk99j-yJoN9xmpfer102A7HLhxR72hNWbw8mmm1JT6qnMXyk8W40s4mk/w300-h400/IMG_0616.JPG" width="300" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /> After much deliberation, walking up and down and up and down the little bridge I chose these very soft and squidgy Peter Storm boots.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBXLoqNIuFEhi__CKz3wyT0OQsQEVwpdd-KDrGqQ6gJHTeI8UOsduYxanVknP5F244A26AiLTAzsz9B_afzP2R2QEzu2zhIF5VwcAUyKbS56OIsRZ-qbf-S6ZWqhx2ZVRF8Du4L08IkGM/s2048/IMG_0618.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBXLoqNIuFEhi__CKz3wyT0OQsQEVwpdd-KDrGqQ6gJHTeI8UOsduYxanVknP5F244A26AiLTAzsz9B_afzP2R2QEzu2zhIF5VwcAUyKbS56OIsRZ-qbf-S6ZWqhx2ZVRF8Du4L08IkGM/s320/IMG_0618.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wearing them in</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr></tbody></table>After watching all the videos last night, I also ordered some walking socks, a rain coat or Outer Shell jacket and a waterproof fleece jacket. Can't wait to get all my new kit and go out for a walk.. Have a couple to local walks along the Stour and Orwell Path to do, so will spend a little time with my map and plan them out this week and hope for a dry weekend ,</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">While we were out we popped over to Dean's Nursery in Great Bromley to get the seed potatoes for the allotment. We have been buying them from this nursery for a few years as they sell them by weight and you can buy as many as you need, which is great as none go to waste.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkKLphAL7yEw9-XJR2GeM2DjpuNU1SGNwX-WQ_cgKsqjYSBLArjN9WaEOiXcDaZEZzbSvjz_D3tehFUiiCxpuBM3PjvfnamzhRj1Rr27JSbdTi6c8LHBmZV3GERYIQIH0QJbKy3LgkHmk/s2048/IMG_0615.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkKLphAL7yEw9-XJR2GeM2DjpuNU1SGNwX-WQ_cgKsqjYSBLArjN9WaEOiXcDaZEZzbSvjz_D3tehFUiiCxpuBM3PjvfnamzhRj1Rr27JSbdTi6c8LHBmZV3GERYIQIH0QJbKy3LgkHmk/w271-h320/IMG_0615.JPG" width="271" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /> Last year we left it too late and had to order online, so was determined to get there on time this year. We chose Aaron Pilot - enough for one row and two rows of Maris Bard, these are both earlies. One row of Salad potatoes - Charlottes, these always do well on our plot and are great for potato salad and having with BBQ's. For main crop we have Sarpo Mira - great for big baking potatoes, Sentanta - again big potatoes and blight resistant and a new one to try - Orla, the pack says good for growing organically, which we do. I will get them out and lay them on trays to start chitting soon. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Next job is to sort through all my seeds, see what we have over and make a plan of what is needed and then get things ordered. I am really missing the gym, not been since Christmas Eve when it closed again. In the summer I started running outside and completed two challenges, the first month was to run a marathon distance (26 miles) in total over the month of March, which I did in 5Km runs. Then in April I crossed the Chanel and much further. I carried on running every couple of days across the summer until the gym re-opened in August. Went to the gym 3 times a week and was really beginning to see some progress, then it closed again in November. I went for a run and found that I had knocked 5 minutes of the time it took me to do the same run in the summer. I might have stopped to take an extra photo in the summer, but was feeling much fitter than I was in March. But now it is either too dark or too wet or too cold or too muddy to run outside, so needed something else.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCzxcjNVJjJrdUj2OzHty791qT70YA-1xIkVWBGVWGgOj6wQN0T1GCoU0-17kf708R5EccAkYPlwheh-AaiGqSatsD_NtjQwJo_5heX8PKpPeiQy01zGhTwQJA9zilQADKj6-1R0BC8Y/s2048/IMG_0608%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCzxcjNVJjJrdUj2OzHty791qT70YA-1xIkVWBGVWGgOj6wQN0T1GCoU0-17kf708R5EccAkYPlwheh-AaiGqSatsD_NtjQwJo_5heX8PKpPeiQy01zGhTwQJA9zilQADKj6-1R0BC8Y/s320/IMG_0608%25282%2529.JPG" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">I have tried various workouts on YouTube, but this week discovered Caroline Girvan and her Epic 2 programme. The first thing I liked about her is her accent, Irish, not American like so many of the Youtubers, which I don't get on with. The programme is 5 times a week for the next 10 weeks. I have managed 4 this week, with still one workout to do over the weekend. Each session is hard, far too many squats, but I quite like it! Lots of weights, which I love, just need to get some heavier ones, but need to decide what to get. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Combining this with counting calories and logging everything on MyfitnessPal, I am tracking everything with a view to loosing a few pounds.. Rather proud of -2lb in two weeks.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">The other thing that is keeping me occupied is stitching and crochet. I have a long term crochet blanket project on the go, but have also been doing some cross stitch, just finished this</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiE_MEbGSW6govIFfGikxWaIdCAajHZxZjcSwjWcTjCiqbmyKRtvlBVY9PkKWk4L8bdLkKyx4S3xO_sE3eS1MNtLEpcNrPo5lTzP2RSLpPdw9foM6WFddqM1wSF14rhSNl99l67z9HC_Y/s2048/IMG_0525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiE_MEbGSW6govIFfGikxWaIdCAajHZxZjcSwjWcTjCiqbmyKRtvlBVY9PkKWk4L8bdLkKyx4S3xO_sE3eS1MNtLEpcNrPo5lTzP2RSLpPdw9foM6WFddqM1wSF14rhSNl99l67z9HC_Y/s320/IMG_0525.JPG" /></a></span></div><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcsKDU5G3sdewk9cf_R0eNLv7azcnzNE6QLX7P9xAbcFARHZF9lTBnXRlOwNNvOA7700ETK7P1BMz9OLr0ITOur_jGgih2kg4GsUECy18OwuRtDDH5i4pXEL9B8vh8pemBmVjq92q05T4/s2048/IMG_0526%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcsKDU5G3sdewk9cf_R0eNLv7azcnzNE6QLX7P9xAbcFARHZF9lTBnXRlOwNNvOA7700ETK7P1BMz9OLr0ITOur_jGgih2kg4GsUECy18OwuRtDDH5i4pXEL9B8vh8pemBmVjq92q05T4/s320/IMG_0526%25281%2529.JPG" /></a></div><br /> The kit had the word "Welcome" in the box, but I changed it to our house number.<br /> </span><br /><p></p>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17172354400355829318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674848111137076091.post-4601063817253448492021-01-17T20:49:00.000+00:002021-01-17T20:49:29.012+00:00Winter weekend<p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Hey! Guess what? I am back. After a 7 year break from blogging I am back. A few weeks ago I realised that I missed my blog and wanted to start again, however I could not find my passwords, but tonight I cracked it and I am back in. So where to start? I think that I will just start with today - why not?</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">After a very busy few weeks, the ones leading up to Christmas and those following with 2 birhtdays there was lots going on, but this weekend there was nothing planned, no where to go as we are once again in lock down, so a quiet lazy weekend. Saturday morning we woke up to snow, always exciting, and I love watching the flakes flutter down from the sky, so I stayed in bed and watched for a bit.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Had a parcel to post, so we wrapped up warm and walked to the post office and then a bit further, the snow then turned to rain and it was cold, we headed home to the warm and stayed in all afternoon. Early evening we popped out to get our Tesco click and collect shopping and on the way reminisced that we used to go out on </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">a Saturday night, out dancing, where I would get dressed up, hair and make up done and dance the night away. That seems like a life time ago, even though it is only 11 months since we last went. I miss it so much, and wonder if we will ever go again?</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;">Today, Sunday was a much different day, with clear skies, sunshine and a bit warmer, we headed out for a long walk. Debating how far we could go decided on Alton Water. A short drive from home, only 6 miles but we had never been there - why ever not, no idea.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Architects Daughter;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; We spent the morning at the allotment. Things are beginning to grow. Tiny little gooseberries cover the bushes, can't wait for them to grow. <br>
Started a new strawberry patch this year and it is looking good, lots of flowers already, won't be long until we are picking them. I put some straw around them before they get any bigger.<br>
The first row of peas has flowers on them, the second row are not far behind.<br>
I picked some sprouting broccoli, the first rhubarb and radishes. Also pulled some leeks. The rhubarb will be made into a cake!<br>
I love having breakfast there. We had toasted hot cross buns and tea - delicious!</p>

Alice arrived home on Thursday morning, which was very exciting as she had been away since the beginning of January.  <br>
I had put up some Spring decorations, a twig heart on the front door that I had made with some willow twigs and green Raffia.  Decorated eggs were hung from some twigs and the dresser re-arranged with chickeny things.<br>
I had crocheted a Spring wreath, which is hanging on the lounge door. The idea for this was taken from Lucy at Attic24, it is similar to hers but not copied completely. <br>
The fridge was full, following a trip to Waitrose the day before.  I had planned the main meals including a big family get together on Saturday.  I had even made the Chocolate Easter Eggs! </p>

We are just getting the hang of things, sometimes it is successful and others not quite so good!<br>
One thing we love to grow are peas! Frozen ones are fine, but nothing like ones straight from the pod at the allotment. we usually share the first pod one or two peas each! <br>
I would like to try and gave a regular supply of peas all summer, so need to sow a new row every few weeks.<br>
I sowed some seeds in guttering in the greenhouse about a month ago by last weekend the plants were about 6 cm tall and time to plant them out. The gutter is great, just dig a shallow trench hold it up and gently shake! The plants sort of slide out and just need firming in! A quick water and hey presto all done. As it is still a bit chilly I covered them with a fleece cloche.<br>
Next step will be to put a net up for the peas to grow up.<br>
One year I saved 5 pounds of pea pods (freezing them as I got them) to make pea pod wine. This year the pods will go on the compost heap!</p>

A few frogs live in it, once I saw a newt!<br>
On Monday we noticed some frog spawn and then loads more on Tuesday. Spotted 4 frogs</p>
<p dir="ltr">This is the earliest they have spawned since records began (my own records!!!) last year when March was absolutely freezing and spring was very late it didn't happen until 18th April around 4 weeks later than normal.<br>
Funny - our weather! </p>

It looked amazing especially with the cloudless sky and the sun shining. On the way back I had to stop and take a photo!<br>
Just looked it up, this is Blackthorn, the bush that produces sloes. The sort that make sloe gin!<br>
An old wives tale says that it won't warm up while the blossom is still on the bush - will have to keep an eye on it!</p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Alice bought this jar of honey back from Russia at Christmas, it had a paper label tied with string and a wax seal on it. I also noticed that our favourite cereal bars are oats and HONEY. Had a talk about bee keeping at horticultural society last year, it's a right faff, they need lots of work. Not just a case of getting the honey out once a year, not sure that bee keeping is for me, but glad it is for some people!!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I save up all the loo roll and kitchen roll innards all year round and use them to plant my broadbeans and runner beans. <br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love going there, it is a lovely city to walk around, so long as you keep your eyes open for the cyclists, they seem to zoom up behind you from nowhere, ringing their bells and shouting at you if you happen to stray just a few inches into a cycle lane.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway I drove up, takes about one and half hours, quite a nice drive, head towards Ipswich and then pick up the A14, past Stowmarket, Bury st Edmunds, Newmarket and then off into Cambridge. Jared has found a tiny, free parking space right near his house and I managed to squeeze in, which was good luck.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We started with a trip to Tesco, to stock him up on all his essentials and a few treats too!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then into town for lunch</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz_Dr0o-WMouDmKjeU0pLztdUGL8ucbTF1eSKXeraptWmTtx6CwTRmV24twpV52gicsAuuntEje8Kt3g-6X9U55iRnhGeexxhusNfdJeXRejLfoyfKx0oepZuUZeaUs_7XHm3qTe2mT0E/s1600/IMG_20140227_135753.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz_Dr0o-WMouDmKjeU0pLztdUGL8ucbTF1eSKXeraptWmTtx6CwTRmV24twpV52gicsAuuntEje8Kt3g-6X9U55iRnhGeexxhusNfdJeXRejLfoyfKx0oepZuUZeaUs_7XHm3qTe2mT0E/s1600/IMG_20140227_135753.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We walked past all the chain restaurants and some strange little sandwich shops until we found Fitzbillies, near the Fitzwilliam Musuem. We have very different tastes so it is quite a challenge to find something to suit. Jared had a steak sandwich with lettuce and NO horseradish mayo! I had a cheese and celery tart with a massive pile of delicious coleslaw, it was very pink, lots of red cabbage I think. Cups of tea too, to warm us up!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> We had a walk around the town. The market was quiet and there was nothing that caught my eye. Cath Kidston is a must and my £4 voucher was burning a hole in my pocket, but didn't see anything that I really wanted. Then went into a shop called Tiger, went there before Christmas and picked up load of bits and pieces. I found some small paper Easter egg decorations, some tin plant pots and some dishcloths - yellow with chicks on, will make washing up fun (not!!)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just spent a wonderful weekend away in Norfolk. Got back yesterday afternoon exhausted! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We set off on Friday morning for a journey that should take just under 2 hours, it's not far and decided to to a detour and stop for lunch on the way. For some reason we decided to stop in Aldeburgh. I have been before and wasn't that keen then and not that keen this time. Sorry to those of you that live there, but I don't really see what the fuss is about. Ok, I know we went on a chilly February day, and I am sure it is better on a sunny summers day, but well............ We drove along the main road and there looked like there were some interesting shops. There are two fish and chip shops, apparently they are wonderful and the thing to do is to get your chips and sit on a stony, windy beach and eat them. But the queues! There were at least 25 people queueing down the street outside both of them, so we didn't bother and I don't even like fish and chips. We tried the Prezzo, but it was fully booked!!!! Ended up with a sandwich in a small tea shop which was very nice. Looked around the shops - Jack Wills ( yes Jack Wills in a tiny seaside town), Jooles and some other clothes shops. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We drove along the coast road and a great big rat ran across the road in front of us, well, I am not keen on rats at all!!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS7UNC4AeNmlgxP7EjgtjzGKzCdzsTwYOb6sxZAab24l_UKFmQoiHwm3RLh_9Q8SiOB0iiI96u2l4W44fFiWRWuBdsb5touidCRrf7RHnvBKJqEUdp5t1k3av7x1nG-bM9rvgdr69onS8/s1600/DSC_0390.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS7UNC4AeNmlgxP7EjgtjzGKzCdzsTwYOb6sxZAab24l_UKFmQoiHwm3RLh_9Q8SiOB0iiI96u2l4W44fFiWRWuBdsb5touidCRrf7RHnvBKJqEUdp5t1k3av7x1nG-bM9rvgdr69onS8/s1600/DSC_0390.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Not a very good photo of the seashell statue, it is quite impressive standing in the middle of the stony beach, but I was a bit worried about the rat and hurried back to the car.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We then drove through Thorpeness, an interesting little village with a lake, which we might have walked around if it had been warmer, tried to get a photo of the house in the clouds - very odd, I am not sure what it is supposed to be.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Perhaps we should have gone to Southwold instead.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We then drove on to our destination, Potters Holiday Resort in Hopton-on-sea!! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was a Ceroc dance weekend. We go to a Ceroc dance class every week. Ceroc is a style of dance known as modern jive, not really Jive like they do on Strictly, more a mix of salsa, waltz and slow jive, anyway I like it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What a weekend! There were lessons all day, for beginners, improver's and advanced dancers and some covering other styles, I was desperate to do the Tango class, but it was so hard! I learnt to walk backwards and slide my leg to the side. Each evening there was dancing until 4 am, although I only managed to stay up until 1.30 - 3 nights in a row!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All the food was included, a bit regimented, but it had to be to fit in with the class schedule. Breakfast was a help your self affair, lunch soon followed at 12.30 which could be a 3 course meal, I couldn't eat that much and then dance again after, so stuck with the salad.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Dinner was again a massive 3 course meal, with lots of choices and some nice puddings! Then for those who were really greedy there was a midnight snack!! We went to have a look on the first night and it was chilli and rice - how can people eat that at that time of night? Anyway the food was tasty, not the most wonderful I have ever had but more than ok.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We stayed in a chalet and ours was the one fattest from the main buildings, almost in the sea! Still it does you good to have a nice walk!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On Sunday afternoon we took a walk down to the beach, it was a bit breezy! We didn't stay out long!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was non stop all weekend and my mind was a bit frazzled with all the different classes, trying to remember the new moves that we learnt. Today my legs ache, my arms and shoulders ache and most strangely my wrist aches. I think it was because I learnt to flick my wrist up at the end of a move and did it so much I have worn it out!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes! you might be thinking that I am a week early for Valentines, but today is my wedding anniversary, 27 years today.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And I also got a very special parcel in the post too.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Managed to finish work an hour early today, which gave me time to have a good tidy up and faff around with the dresser. Working from the top I have added some tiny heart shaped lights, 3 large pillar candles with red hearts on from Ikea, a home made felt heart and felt ball garland, more candles and a decoupage word LOVE. Later I added a plate of heart shaped biscuits and the flowers my husband gave me when he came home from work. On the curtain rail is a paper heart garland - cool?</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My husband has very good taste in flowers, he has learnt (over the last 27 and a half years) what I like and the colours that don't clash with the walls. Tonight he came home with a lovely bouquet, which I arranged in a small wicker basket. Cream roses, carnations and some purple bell shaped flowers, I am not sure of their name, but very pleased with my arranging.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I gave him a bag of heart shaped jelly sweets, he loves jellies and made some heart shaped biscuits drizzled with chocolate.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We don't tend to go for meals very often, or make a big deal of anniversaries, flowers and sweets do the trick. For dinner I cooked sweet and sour steak for him and Thia curry quorn for me with rice and stirfry vegies, very tasty!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A few weeks ago I decided to join in with a swap, "Send a little love" ,organised by <a href="http://madaboutbagsuk.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/send-little-love-swap.html" target="_blank">Tracy</a></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, addresses were swapped, items collected and parcels posted. I am not sure if she has mine yet, but mine has arrived. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And the other three. The one on the left was my practice ripple, to learn how to ripple before I started my blanket. The one in the middle is just one big granny square, made when I was between projects and just wanted something to do.</span><br />

Which I thought was a bargain! <br>
I looked at the label this morning and noticed that it is from Costa Rica, which reminded me of the time Alice spent there when she went travelling a couple of years ago and that when she was little she called pineapples "prickly i apples" <br>
Each morning I chop up some fruit and pop into tubs for me and Mr HH. This makes me eat some fruit as it is easy to eat like this, somehow I can't just pick up an apple or orange and eat it. Also this way is easier when I am working.<br>
So today we had pineapple and satsumas - lovely!<br>
The pineapple peal filled my compost bucket to overflowing which meant a walk down the garden to the compost bin to empty it- should I get a bigger bucket? </p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Oh no he didn't! Oh yes he did! Panto time!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> And I nearly didn't make it. On Friday evening as I drove to the end of my road I noticed that there was an enormous traffic jam (we don't get many as we live in the countryside) but realised that I was not going to get to Colchester the normal way. Took a detour through some lanes and hit the traffic jam from the opposite direction, so took the "long cut". This took me about 20 minutes longer than I expected and arrived at the theatre with a 5 minutes to spare! I found out after that a lorry had overturned on the A12, closing the road, this means that traffic diverts through the country lanes near us, but there was another accident on this route and it seems the whole of North Essex was at a standstill.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I joined the others from the WIGS (WI girls) at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester for a fabulous production of Sleeping Beauty. What fun it was! lots of singing, dancing, silly jokes, being squirted with water and an ice cream tub in the interval. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Saturday was a lovely bright and sunny day, popped to the market to stock up on fruit and veg and came home to get out in the garden.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Picked up this lovely pot of daffodils for just £1.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I let the chickens into the greenhouse and they had a lovely time dust bathing - rolling around in the dry earth working it into their feathers. They then stand up and have a good shake and cover me in dust! They must have loved it as Sunday they laid two eggs. Have been having one or none most days. I don't think that Marjorie is laying though, I have had words with her.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Time to start sowing some seeds. I love sweetpeas and try and grow lots on the allotment. I am starting them off in the cold greenhouse now, in pots. Sowed some mixed winter salad leaves in a big pot. In theory you should be able to grow lettuce all year round and not have to buy those expensive bags from the supermarket, but I have yet to achieve this. Perhaps that should have been my resolution this year - to grow all my own lettuce!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Leek seeds in the greenhouse, onions and lavender in the airing cupboard - just got to wait and see now..................... I will let you know if anything grows.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Just one week after Alice's birthday it was Jared's turn. His birthday was on Friday, but he had had exams this week and decided to stay at Uni and have a party with all his friends. He came home of Saturday and of course I made him a cake - chocolate sponge (made with eggs from the girls) filled with cream (found half a pot in the freezer) blackcurrent jelly ( a Christmas present from a friend) topped with buttercream (left over from Alice's cake) and decorated with half a packet of chocolate buttons (left over from the gingerbread house).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes I am on a mission to use up all the bits and pieces in the cupboards and freezer. Just shopping for things as I need them - I wonder how long I can go before I need to do a "big shop"?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sunday was spent cleaning the house, doing my household accounts, a bit of crochet and finished by watching the darts final and Sherlock -excellent weekend! </span>Lizzyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17172354400355829318noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674848111137076091.post-47913618432420764712014-01-08T20:22:00.001+00:002014-01-08T20:22:50.170+00:00A very long day <p dir="ltr">Tucked up in my cosy bed at 8 pm after a very, very long day.<br>
Alice has been at home for the Christmas holidays and was due to return tomorrow, but last week phoned up and changed her flight to today.<br>
Her flight back to Moscow from Gatwick was at 7 am which meant that we needed to leave here at 2 am! Managed to get about 3 hours sleep before we set off. Had a good journey and arrived in plenty of time and thank goodness we did. She was told that she was not booked on the flight. All the paper work was in Russian which didn't help. After 2 hours and a credit card payment she eventually had a seat! Said goodbye and see you in the summer!<br>
I got home in time for cup of tea before I had to go to work! <br>
Had to say goodbye to someone leaving work today, so a sad day twice over.<br>
Goodnight! <br>
</p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She was quite impressed that I had found some Miffy wrapping paper. Not sure that we wanted to eat any more cake as we had so much at Christmas, so instead I made Macaroons. That were a bit of a faff, as I made 3 colours, but for a first attempt not too bad. They looked like macaroons and tasted like macaroons, but each one was a different size! I must learn to control the piping bag better.</span></div>
